Evaluation 2025/1 (April 2025, date of publication of the evaluation: 02.04.2025)

Scope of presentation of the evaluation results

The website provides the 2025/1 evaluation presenting the official breeding values of Polish Holstein-Friesian bulls of the black-and-white and red-and-white varieties estimated using the Single-Step Genomic Evaluation (ssGBLUP) method, which combines phenotypic, pedigree and genomic information in a single statistical model.

This evaluation allows for the simultaneous evaluation of genotyped and ungenotyped animals. It allows for the combination of all available sources of information about the animal: own phenotypic observations (in the case of females) and those from relatives, international evaluations of the breeding value of bulls, pedigree connections and information on the genotypes of animals. For genotyped individuals, we can count on a much higher accuracy of the evaluation. On the other hand, breeding values for ungenotyped individuals will be characterized by lower accuracy, unless own observations or observations on many daughters are available for them.

The following codes were introduced to specify the data source used to estimate the breeding value using the single-stage method:

EVALUATION RESULTS include estimated breeding values for the traits of milk yield, conformation, fertility, somatic cell count, longevity (survival), milking capacity, calving, hoof health and the PF index calculated on their basis, together with subindices. The breeding value for a given trait is considered official when the criteria given in the evaluation methods are met.

Criteria for publishing breeding values and indexes

For all traits subject to evaluation, i.e. milk yield, somatic cell count, conformation, fertility, longevity (survival), milking capacity, calving, hoof health, a national or international evaluation estimated by INTERBULL is presented. If the bull has a genotype and/or phenotype in the country, the official national assessment is presented (DATA SOURCE = GPI, GP, G, GI, PI or P). If the bull has only an international assessment, then the official assessment of the bull is the international assessment (DATA SOURCE = MACE or GMACE).
